Governor Paterson announced an agreement reached with legislative leaders where the state will takeover the New York City OTB, which he says will save 1,500 jobs.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says the state's pension fund lost $44 billion since the beginning of the year because of the economy. DiNapoli says local governments will need to increase their contributions to the fund.
More reaction to Governor Paterson's announcement that 8,900 state workers will be laid off. Paterson says he tried to negotiate with the unions back in October to prevent this and the union heads say there are other things that can be done.
