Near No-Hitter Lifts ValleyCats

Troy, NY - Francis Ramirez, Randall Fant, and Derick Velazquez combined on a one-hit shutout Thursday as the Tri-City ValleyCats blanked the Hudson Valley Renegades, 6-0.

HV's only hit came on a clean single in the 7th inning by Tampa Bay's 1st round draft pick Casey Gillaspie.

The crowd of 4,850 at Joe Bruno Stadium wasn't able to exhale until Tri-City finally snapped a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 7th, when Alfredo Gonzalez singled home Alex Hernandez with the game's first run.

Mott Hyde (2nd) and Terrell Joyce (10th) would both hit late home runs as the ValleyCats secured a victory that draws them even with the Renegades for best record in the New York-Penn League.
