Snow and Gusty Wind Today - Poor Travel Conditions Expected

A Nor'easter  is expected to impact the region today, but the impact around the Capital Region looks to be on the lighter side, as the storm takes a more Easterly track. Snowfall of varying intensity is expected through this afternoon and evening.  A gusty NNW wind from 15-20 mph at times will cause blowing and drifting of the very dry snow creating poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions at times through late tonight. General Storm accumulations in the Capital Region of 2-6" are expected, with higher amounts across western New England.

Hoffman Picked 9th In MLB Draft

Latham, NY - The Toronto Blue Jays used the 9th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Player Draft Thursday on East Carolina University right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman out of Shaker High School.

Hoffman is recovering from Tommy John surgery, which was performed last month by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL.

The 6'4", 195 pound 21-year-old is expected to make a full recovering by the summer of 2015, then begin his climb through the Jays' minor league system.

The only Section II player ever drafted higher than Hoffman was Tim Stauffer (Spa Catholic/University of Richmond) who went No. 4 overall to the Padres in 2003.

Hoffman opened the door for a record-tying four Section II products taken in the first ten rounds of an MLB Draft.  On Friday, Oakland drafted Branden Cogswell (Shenendehowa/Virginia) in the 7th round.  Three picks later St. Louis took Brian O'Keefe (Colonie/Saint Joseph's).  San Francisco then drafted Matt Gage (Broadalbin-Perth/Siena) in the 10th round.

The 2014 MLB Draft will hold rounds 11 through 40 on Saturday, with several more Section II products on the board.
