Mother charged after leaving baby in hot car

SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a western New York woman has been charged after a man had to break a window on her car when she left the child in the vehicle while she shopped.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office tells local media that a 32-year-old woman left her 1-year-old daughter in the car while she shopped Sunday afternoon at the Walmart store in Springville.

Deputies say a customer spotted the girl in the car and used a hammer to break a window.

Police say the mother told them she forgot the baby was in the car when she went into the store.

Officials say the girl had been in the car four about 30 minutes. The outside temperature was 75 degrees but deputies say it topped 100 inside the car.

The girl wasn't injured.
