Judge denies request of plea change in murder of former nun

SCHENECTADY - A judge has denied a Schenectady man requesting to change his plea, charged after admitting to killing a former nun.

38-year-old Michael Briggs asked the court to take back his guilty plea, saying he did not kill Mary Greco back in December of 2012, claiming his innocence at a per-sentencing hearing in Schenectady City Court.

The body of the 82 year-old woman was discovered inside her Stanford Street apartment in January of 2013. Briggs confessed to the murder months later.

Sentencing, initially delayed, is now set for August 29.  Briggs is facing 30 to life in prison.
