Local crew returns after battling Washington wildfires

A 20-member firefighting crew is back home after spending more than 2 weeks battling a raging wildfire in Washington State.

Crews from around the country were sent to help contain the nearly 14,000 acre fire. The New York team says the dealt with rough terrain and daily temperatures often reaching 90 degrees - vastly different conditions to what they are used to back at home.

In a statement, the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation thanked the crew for their service. "All New Yorkers should be proud of this crew for demonstrating courage and compassion in assisting others in a time of need."
