No prior defects found in bus that crashed in NY

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York state police say they have found no prior mechanical defects that contributed to a Canadian tour bus crash that killed a teenage girl in upstate New York last month.

The crash about 8 a.m. on July 18 on Interstate 87, also known as the Adirondack Northway, left the bus on its side in a grassy median about 90 miles north of Albany. It killed 14-year-old Chelssy Mercier of Quebec, who was traveling with her mother on the bus from Trois Rivieres, Quebec, to New York City.

The bus was carrying 55 passengers and its 61-year-old driver.

Troopers say the investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed yet.
