Snow and Gusty Wind on Tuesday - Poor Travel Conditions Expected

A Nor'easter  is expected to impact the region today, but the impact around the Capital Region looks to be on the lighter side, as the storm takes a more Easterly track. Snow will become steadier from SE to NW this morning, with snowfall of varying intensity through this afternoon and evening.  A gusty NNW wind from 15-20 mph at times will cause blowing and drifting of the very dry snow creating poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions at times through late tonight. General Storm accumulations in the Capital Region of 2-6" are expected, with higher amounts across western New England.

Police: Man's hand nearly cut off by machete

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) -- A 42-year-old Mohawk Valley man has been charged with assault after police say he nearly sliced off another man's hand with a machete during a fight.

Police in the city of Amsterdam tell local media that doctors were able to reattach the man's hand but don't know if he will regain full use of it.

Officers say the man was one of two injured during a brawl Tuesday in Amsterdam, 30 miles northwest of Albany. The second man suffered minor injuries.

Police found a machete hidden in bushes near the scene of the fight.

Officers later arrested 42-year-old Israel Miranda after one of the victims identified him as the man who had the machete.

Miranda is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Amsterdam City Court. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
