Toddler injured after car crashed into home in Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND -- A toddler is recovering after a car crashed into his home shortly after midnight on Monday.

Police say Nicholas Gage, 18, and Brandon Medina, 21, were both speeding up Route 50 in Northumberland when Gage tried to pass Medina, but lost control and struck the man's car. Medina's vehicle was sent across a yard, hitting a parked vehicle and the home before it came to rest in the nearby woods.

According to authorities, the impact to the home resulted major damage, causing the wall to come down and hit the young boy in the head while he slept. He was taken to Saratoga Hospital, along with Medina. Both were treated for minor injuries.

Gage's car reportedly veered in the opposite direction, hitting a fence before coming to rest in a ditch. He suffered a broken leg and was taken to Albany Medical Center.

Both Medina and Gage have been charged with assault and reckless driving. While investigating the incident, officials say they found marijuana in Medina's car. He has also been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
