Local town wins state-wide drinking water competition

ROTTERDAM -- One local town took home the title of Best Tasting Drinking Water in the state on Tuesday.

Rotterdam claimed the top spot in the New York Tap Water Taste Contest, held at the New York State Fair. Organizers say it's a non-scientific, friendly competition designed to bring attention to the vital public health resource.

"Having great tasting tap water encourages the healthy habit of consuming water," says Acting Health Department Commissioner Howard Zucker.

The Village of Remsen in Oneida County was the runner up.
