Tests show Catskills nursing home has Legionnaires-causing bacteria in water
CATSKILL -- Officials have found bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease at a Catskills nursing home.
The Legionella bacterium was discovered at the Kaaterskill Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, but officials are clear to point out there have been no signs of the disease itself among the residents. Kaaterskill Care has put a number of water use restriction in place, since the elderly are particularly susceptible to the disease.
Legionnaires does not spread person to person, and is usually found in a water source - anything from a creek or pond to water in an air conditioning unit.
