NY troopers targeting speeders, aggressive drivers

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- As NASCAR drivers head to Watkins Glen for the upcoming Sprint Cup Series weekend, New York's state troopers will be conducting a week-long enforcement effort targeting speeders and aggressive drivers across the state.

The state police "Speed Week" campaign runs from Aug. 6 through Aug. 12.

Drivers can expect to see more troopers and unmarked patrol vehicles on major highways. In addition to speeders and aggressive drivers, troopers will be looking for distracted or impaired drivers and people violating the "Move Over" law.

During the August 2013 Speed Week campaign, state police issued nearly 25,000 traffic tickets. More than 9,000 were for speeding and more than 2,300 were for distracted driving.
