Volunteers fill backpacks for needy kids

ALBANY -- Local teens took time out of their summer vacations on Monday to give back to those in need.

The volunteers gathered at CAP COM Credit Union headquarters to fill 500 backpacks with school supplies for underserved children. The event was part of the credit union's annual back-to-school backpack program with a goal of ensuring children whose families are facing economic hardships are still equipped with the educational tools they need to succeed in school.

The children will receive items such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and rulers.
