Police: Stolen calves found, 4 dead

FORT EDWARD -- Seven calves stolen from a barn in Kingsbury were located, and officials say only three of the animals have survived.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says they received a call from a property property owner in Fort Edward about some calves that had shown up on his property. Officials say they determined the calves were the ones stolen from the Kingsbury barn.

According to officials, three of the calves were deceased and a fourth had to be euthanized at the scene because of its condition. The other three were able to be rescued. Authorities say the calves had not been properly cared for and a local veterinary service assisted on the scene.

Officials say the animals were just one to two weeks old when they were taken from a farm near the intersection of Hendee Road earlier this month. The owner of the calves says the animals are worth between $500 and $1,000 each.
