Field assigned for Whitney Stakes

SARATOGA -- The 9-horse field for the Whitney Stakes has been assigned post positions.

Belmont Stakes winner, Palace Malice, has taken the number 5 spot. Last year's Travers winner will take charge as the second choice in the money at 4-1 and has earned the pole position.

While the Whitney has long been a major event at the track, this year it also offers the biggest payout during the Saratoga meet. The New York Racing Association doubled the purse on the Whitney handicap this year to 1.5 million, pushing it beyond the Travers as the biggest prize.
