Washington Ave closed due to police activity

ALBANY -- Police arrested a man Monday evening after a brief standoff on Washington Ave. between Quail St and N. Lake Ave. Chief Steven Krokoff said witnesses told police the man was intoxicated and armed with a rifle.

Washington Ave. was closed for more than an hour as police staged and tried to get the man out safely. Krokoff said the man was in the home alone and made suicidal threats.

A police negotiator was brought in after 10 p.m. and spoke with the unidentified man for about 30 minutes before he was taken into custody without injuries.

The conversation was actually peaceful the entire time. He didnt get agitated with us. He listened to our negotiators and ultimately he came out, said Krokoff.  We were concerned he was going to use the police to possibly injure himself, but it ended well.
