Body found in Cohoes

UPDATE: Police have identified the body found in Cohoes as Mark Thomas. After an autopsy was performed, they say he died from cardiac arrest due to severe burns.

COHOES -- Police say a body was discovered inside a building on Canvass Street in Cohoes.

Officers tell CBS6 the body was that of a 55-year-old man. The discovery came with a bizarre twist:  the man had burns on his body.  Police say some of those burns were the process of healing.

Initially, investigators thought the man might have ties to a recent rash of fires in Troy; however, further investigation led authorities away from this possibility.

After speaking with friends and family of the man, authorities determined the man frequently visited the Grafton Peace Pagoda and recently had a falling out with management there. When police searched the facility, they found evidence of a fire and that the man had been there at the times in question.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the man, pending notification of his family. Additionally, a cause of death has not yet been established. They say this remains an ongoing investigation.
