Parents rally against Common Core

ALBANY -- Parents gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday to rally against the controversial Common Core education standards.

The group is calling on the state to pull the curriculum from their children's schools. Some lawmakers say they see a need for reevaluating the new standards.

"Let's look and see how we got here [and] why did we get here without bringing in the major stakeholders in education and let's return ourselves to having some local control over our schools," says Assemblyman Ed Ra (R - Garden City).

Governor Cuomo recently appointed a panel to decide on possible changes to the Common Core. None of the panel's recommendations including a complete repeal of the standards.
