Little league team raffles AR-15 rifle

ELK CITY, Okla. (CNN Newsource) -- A youth baseball team in Oklahoma is raffling off an AR-15 rifle to raise money for equipment and travel games.

It's generated some harsh criticism. But the head coach of the Elk City Outlaws says the winner must meet requirements, including passing a background check.

The coach says most parents, like Andy Shelton, support the raffle. "Some people, guns are just not their thing.  But out here, it's a very popular sport and it's a very popular hobby and activity that a lot of families do."

The team's coach says other local groups have raffled off firearms as well.
