Two charged; withholding food from children

SCHODACK - A grandfather and mother from Sand Lake are facing eight counts, including child endangerment and felony assault.

Police say they were alerted to alleged abuse from Child Protective Services in February.  The joint investigation alleges that the Joseph Glasser, 61, and Dana Glasser, 33, withheld food from two out of four children in the home for a period of time.

State Police say the children, both 5 year-olds, were found in an emaciated condition.  All victims are under the care of other family members, monitored by CPS.

A brother of Joseph Glasser tells CBS6 the claims of the State Police's  use of the word "emaciated" in its news release is "blown out of proportion.  He did add that there is a divorce and custody battle involved, but would not comment further.

Both Joseph and Dana Glasser were arraigned in Rensselaer County Court and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail on $25,000.00 bail.
