Bennington official calls police shooting tragic

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- The Bennington town manager is calling a shooting in the lobby of the police station a tragic situation, but he's referring questions about the investigation to the Vermont State Police.

Town Manager Stuart Hurd made the comments Wednesday, hours after a person was shot and hospitalized.

Police said no officers were injured during the shooting that happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

State Police say they're planning to release more information about the case.

It was the third officer-involved shooting in Vermont this month. On April 4, a man was shot and killed by Brattleboro police during a search for drugs at a hotel. On April 6, two troopers and a civilian were wounded after being shot in the town of Leicester. A suspect has been charged in that case.
