Solemn tributes mark Boston Marathon bombing
BOSTON (AP) -- A tribute is underway in Boston for those killed and injured in the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon a year ago.
Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and former Mayor Tom Menino are among those scheduled to speak at the invitation-only event at the Hynes Convention Center. Several survivors also will share their thoughts.
There will be a march to the nearby finish line and a moment of silence at 2:49 p.m. to mark the moment the two bombs exploded.
In Washington, President Barack Obama planned to observe the anniversary with a private moment of silence at the White House.
Boston police Commissioner Williams Evans says the anniversary is an emotional day and brings back "some terrible memories."
