Police: NY woman kidnapped, injected with heroin

PENN YAN, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a 28-year-old upstate New York man forced a woman to drive him to the Rochester area to buy heroin, then injected her with the drug against her will and left her unconscious in a parking lot.

Police in Penn Yan in Yates County tell local media that Paul West went to a relative's house on Friday and demanded to be taken to the suburb of Greece to purchase heroin. Officials say West punched a woman and threatened to kill her with a knife if she didn't drive.

She borrowed a car and drove 50 miles to Greece, where police say West bought heroin and forcibly injected her. The woman was treated at a local hospital.

The charges against West include kidnapping and assault.

He's being held in jail. Information on his lawyer isn't available.
