Outgoing City Engineer faces Troy City Council
TROY -- Outgoing City Engineer Russ Reeves was called in front of the City Council on Tuesday night to answer questions about incidents that he said led to his resignation.
One incident was at King Fuels, the other was at a building on King Street near Bombers Burrito Bar. Reeves said that he was on vacation during both projects and that public safety was at risk. He told the Council that a certified engineer did not oversee either project, and that during the demolition on King Street, Bombers was not evacuated.
"That's my responsibility, it's the Police Chief's responsibility, the Fire Chief's responsibility. The three of us in our commands cannot be usurped when we are experts in this in our respective areas. I can't be usurped by the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, anyone. the Commissioner of Planning, no one usurped that authority," he said. "If you do, then you go get a professional engineer's license and you be responsible for for the lives of 50,000 people here in this city."
Reeves' resignation takes effect on Friday.
