Cheerleading officially a sport in New York

ALBANY -- Cheerleading officially became a competitive sport in New York on Tuesday.  The New York State Board of Regents voted unanimously to make the designation, ending a five year debate on whether cheerleading should be regulated the same way other high school sports teams are.
Most suburban school districts in the Capital Region already consider cheerleading a sport but Tuesday's decision will officially regulate the sport under a statewide umbrella.  The New York State Public School Athletic Association says it will convene its cheerleading committee at the end of May to review the approval and set up a strategy for implementation within its membership.
Jennifer Lewke spoke with local school districts and cheerleaders to get their reactions to the change.
