Student sues parents for tuition

LINCOLN PARK, N.J. (AP) - March 3, 2014 -- High school senior Rachel Canning is suing her parents.

The Morris Catholic High student claims her folks kicked her out of their northern New Jersey house.

The 18-year-old wants financial support and the court to order her parents to pay for college.

Canning's father, retired police chief Sean Canning, says Rachel left home voluntarily. He tells a local paper (Daily Record of Parsippany) Rachel wouldn't follow reasonable household rules, like being respectful, keeping a curfew and doing some chores.

Rachel is now living with the family of her best friend.
