Troy teens arrested on sex trafficking charges

COLONIE -- Two Troy residents were arrested on charges that they forced a 21-year-old woman to be a prostitute.

The Albany County Sheriff's Department arrested Elijah Richardson, 19 and Jakia York, 19, on sex trafficking and drug charges. They say they were alerted to the situation by a friend of the Lewis County woman allegedly being held. According to officials, the woman told her friend that she was being forced into prostitution and was being held in a motel in Colonie.

Investigators learned the woman was being advertised as an escort and set up a meeting. They were directed to the Super 8 on Central Avenue, where they met with the woman. She allegedly told them where the two suspects were located that were reportedly feeding her heroin addiction while selling her for sex.

At that point, investigators executed a search warrant on another room in the same motel, where they found 20 bags of heroin and more than $1,800.

Richardson and York have both been remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
