Astorino campaign stops in Albany

ALBANY -- Westchester County Executive, Rob Astorino, made a campaign stop in Albany, Friday to meet with the media.

Astorino announced his candidacy for Governor earlier this week. He is hoping to secure the GOP line when the Republicans hold their state wide convention in May.

The County Executive has an uphill challenge, if he receives the nod, against incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo. Although very early, Cuomo has significantly more campaign money raised, is more popular and leads very early polls.

Acknowledging a tough political fight, Astorino pointed to his success in previous races for Westchester County Executive. Astorino won back to back terms in a very Democratic heavy voting district.

Pointing to what he calls problems, Mr. Astorino has typical Republican agenda that differs much of what Governor Cuomo has and plans to do.

Astorino says he does not support expanding abortion into the third trimester, he would like to repeal the SAFE Act, and would be open to seeking term limits for legislators and the governor's office.

Governor Cuomo's office could not immediately be reached for comment.
