Assemblyman found guilty in corruption case
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York state assemblyman has been convicted of bribery charges.
A jury reached the verdict on Thursday at the federal trial of William Boyland Jr.
Prosecutors had accused Boyland of accepting bribes from a carnival promoter and two undercover FBI agents posing as out-of-town real estate investors.
The evidence included a recording of the Brooklyn lawmaker offering to arrange a deal for the phony businessmen to buy a hospital in his district in exchange for $250,000.
The defense said Boyland only made the men empty promises.
