Two arrested for Crossgates Mall theft

GUILDERLAND -- Two people were arrested on Sunday and charged with stealing more than $13,000 worth of merchandise from stores at Crossgates Mall.
26-year-old Scott Cleland and 23-year-old Melissa Russell, both of Troy, were arrested when police responded to an attempted jewelry theft at the Macy's store.  The pair also allegedly stole and iPad Air and a Mophie brand phone case/charger from the Sprint Store worth a total of $760.  Guilderland Police said that the pair were also involved in stealing more than $12,000 worth of jewelry from the JC Penney store on February 25.
Cleland and Russell were each charged with 3rd Degree Grand Larceny and 5th Degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Additionally, Cleland was charged with 4th Degree Attempted Grand Larceny, and Russell was charged with 5th Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Upon arrest, police found Russell to be in possession of five Oxycodone pills.
Both were arraigned in Guilderland Town Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail without bail.
