2 NY Brothers arrested in $2M product scam
MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- Two New York brothers have been arrested and charged with operating a massive counterfeiting operation that produced and sold health and beauty products such as shampoos, lip balms and oils.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says Friday Pardeep Malik and Hamant Mullick manufactured, stored and sold more than $2 million in goods that were hauled from multiple locations Thursday in four tractor-trailers.
Malik and Mullick were each charged with three counts of trademark counterfeiting and other crimes. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.
Prosecutors believe their scheme may be larger than it appears and say retail stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida have sold the products.
They say the brothers faked products owned by brands such as ChapStick, Johnson's Baby Oil, Vicks VapoRub and Always sanitary pads.
