Brutal winter having negative impact on area businesses
SCHENECTADY -- There's no doubt this winter has been brutal. From sub zero temperatures, to one helping of snow after another. But, while many are home sitting by the fire some local businesses are suffering from a lack of customers.
"We had an anti-valentines event on Thursday that we ended up canceling because of the snow. Friday, Valentine's Day was down about 50%," Kevin Brown, owner of Cafe Nola tells us.
He tells us the farmers market has also been negatively impacted by the snow, with people still digging out from the nor'easter this weekend.
While some businesses have been negatively impacted by all the snow we've had this winter, some are seeing the opposite effect. Homestyle pizza in Schenectady tells us that while they've seen less people inside their restaurant their delivery business is booming. They tell us especially this weekend with no one wanting to leave home.
"Deliveries have really picked up we've had to give a longer time on deliveries. We're usually abut 45 minutes but we've had to give an hour 15 because the driving a little slower and the volume has increased," owner Joseph Adonnino tells us.
There's still about a month until the first day of spring. So until the snow melts, businesses are left coping with the weather.
