Suspect sought in LI animal cruelty case

MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (AP) -- Law enforcers on Long Island are looking for the person who threw a dog out of a pickup truck window.

CBS New York says the dog, which suffered head trauma, leaped into the vehicle of a Samaritan who stopped to help on Wednesday night in Mastic Beach.

Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross says the young pit bull mix also has healed scars on its face, indicating it may have been used as bait for dogfighting.

He calls it a "blatant act of animal cruelty."

The dog was wearing a collar and is housebroken.

The SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The phone number is 631-382-7722.
