Nor'easter to Bring a Heavy to Major Snowfall Monday Night into Tuesday Night

A major Nor'easter is expected to develop south of New England Monday night, potentially getting stuck near Cape Cod into Tuesday before moving away Tuesday night.  This storm will bring heavy snow and gusty wind at times causing blowing and drifting snow, potential whiteout conditions at times leading to dangerous travel late Monday night through Tuesday.  Snow accumulations of 10" to 20" will be possible, especially in the Hudson valley and across western New England with amounts up to 10" in the Mohawk valley and western Catskills.

Mac and Cheese Bowl raises money for area food bank

COLONIE -- In it's 5th year, the Mac and Cheese Bowl draws thousands from around the region to sample 30 of area restaurants best batches.

"It's great for us I mean you've got 30 different organizations spending at least a week just to prepare for this thing. We really have a good time with it and look at the people they really come out for it," says Chris Martell with Druthers in Saratoga Springs.

This year over 1,800 are expected to have a taste, and it's all for a good cause. With every person that comes through the doors to sample the different macaroni and cheeses, money gets donated to the Northeast Regional Food Bank. They tell us since SNAP cuts took effect a few months ago, they need that money now more than ever.

"For people who are getting by and food stamps help them get by, they lose 90 dollars in food stamps in a given month, every month. That's money that was going strictly for food so it's definitely having an impact on people and on families. And there's no question it will push more people to food pantries for help," Mark Quandt, executive director of the regional food bank tells us.

In the past four years this event has raised one hundred and ten thousand dollars. We're told this year the food bank is expecting to raise about 40 thousand dollars, just in net profits.

"We depend very heavily. We're not a government agency, we're private non-profit, so we depend very heavily on contributions from the community to do the work we do, so whether people just send in a check or we go out and have fund raisers like this to draw people in it's very very important to us," says Quandt.

"These are all people who know a little bit more about the food bank and have a little bit more of a connection to us because of the event," he adds.

All who attend have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Mac and Cheese. This year Druthers won, for the second year in a row.
