Cop: NYC DEP employee admitted to shooting man
KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) -- A police officer says a New York City Department of Department of Environmental Protection employee charged with killing a co-worker last week acknowledged shooting the man inside the agency's upstate complex.
Local media outlets report that DEP police Lt. Justin Kight testified in Kingston City Court on Monday that he had just disarmed David Reese on the morning of Feb. 3 when Reese told him he had shot 33-year-old Aron Thomas twice.
Kight testified during a preliminary hearing that found Thomas' body soon afterward on the floor of the maintenance shop.
The 53-year-old Reese, a 16-year DEP employee, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
Police haven't released a motive for the shooting.
Thomas is survived by his wife and their two children, a seven-week-old and a 2-year-old.
