Member of Selkirk Fire Department accused of stealing funds

SELKIRK--A woman who worked for the Selkirk Fire Department has been accused of stealing non-tax-payer funds raised by the company.

Heather Lynn Burns was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $18,000.00 from the department. The case formed after the department found unapproved payments to their checking and savings account.

Chairman Charles Wickham of the Selkirk Fire District said, "Since we discovered the theft, every effort was taken to recover the funds and minimize the damage to Company #3, South Bethlehem. We have changed our financial reporting and called for an extensive audit of all Department funds."

Burns turned herself in and was immediately terminated by the department.
