Crowds call for scaffold law reform

ALBANY -- Hundreds of people came out on Tuesday to call for reform to the New York scaffold law. A revision of the century-old law has bipartisan support in both houses.

The scaffold law imposes absolute liability for elevation-related injuries on contractors and property owners. Advocates want to create a comparative negligence standard. That reform would look directly at whether the worker was intoxicated, violating safety standards or committing a criminal act.
