Police: Shot fired at Kingston watershed office

KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) -- The Ulster County prosecutor says an employee of New York City's Department of Environmental Protection has been shot to death and a co-worker is in custody.

District Attorney Holley Carnright tells local media Monday that both the gunman and male victim worked at the DEP's upstate offices in the city of Kingston, where the shooting took place shortly before 7 a.m. He says the weapon was a handgun.

Kingston Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Aron Thomas of Olivebridge. The name of the suspect wasn't initially released. Carnright says formal charges will be filed later Monday.

A spokesman for DEP didn't return a call seeking comment.

The DEP offices in downtown Kingston house employees who oversee the city's upstate reservoirs.
