ALBANY -- The Albany
County Legislature approved a resolution Monday evening to establish a land
bank corporation in the county. The not-for-profit would acquire properties
that are tax delinquent, foreclosed, vacant or abandoned in an effort to remove
They would bring some relief to what we have seen for many, many years and has affected not only the neighborhood, but our education system so on and so forth, said Legislature Majority Leader Frank Commisso.
Some minority members spoke against the way the resolution was brought forward by criticizing the rapid process used to bring it to a vote.
Only ten land banks are permitted statewide and eight have already been established. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is expected to propose allowing 20 land banks, but the majority did not want to wait.
