Cops use pepper spray to quell NY school fights
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say police had to use pepper spray to quell several fights that broke out at a Rochester public school building housing two high schools.
City school district officials say a fight broke early Tuesday afternoon in the cafeteria at the Frederick Douglass campus and the fighting continued outside after students evacuated the building when a malfunction caused a fire alarm to sound.
Two students were taken to a hospital for what district officials say were non-serious injuries. District officials say other students were treated by the school nurse after being exposed to pepper spray used by police.
The campus was put on lockdown for the remainder of the school day.
The complex houses the Northeast and Northwest College Preparatory high schools.
