Governor closes portion of Thruway

BUFFALO -- For the second time in as many weeks, Governor Cuomo announced the shutdown of a section of the Thruway because of bad weather.

The Thruway between the Buffalo area and the Pennsylvania line, exits 55 to 61, will be closed to all traffic starting at 8 p.m. on Monday. The road was shut down to commercial vehicles earlier in the day.

Cuomo says it is a precautionary measure ahead of a possible 36 inches of snow that could fall in the area. There has been no timetable given for when the stretch could reopen.
