Man arrested for allegedly stealing from Boy Scouts

BRUNSWICK -- A Troy man is facing charges after authorities say he stole returnable bottles and cans from bins belonging to a Boy Scout troop.

State Police arrested David Castagnier II, 21, after they say he was caught on surveillance cameras taking the cans and bottles from donation bins at the library and town hall in Brunswick.

The Scout Master for Troop 537, Wayne Christiansen noticed the troops bins in the two locations didnt have anything in them for about six weeks, starting around Thanksgiving. He says the loss was about $575 based on previous donations. Christiansen set up cameras at the two locations and saw what appeared to be the same man taking the items out of the bins.

Troopers say they identified the man as Castagnier, who admitted to taking the bottles and cans from the bins. He will be back in court next week on petit larceny charges.
