Cuomo: No more taking out public assistance funds at liquor stores, strip clubs

ALBANY -- Governor Andrew Cuomo's latest budget proposal would prevent New Yorkers from taking out public assistance funds at liquor stores, casinos and strip clubs.

Several states have passed similar measures after the federal government passed a bill banning EBT debit card withdrawals in those facilities in 2012. New York now has a February 22 deadline to prove to the federal government that it has taken steps to prevent people from abusing the card.

The state risks losing $120 million in federal funding if it does not prove its case.
