Saratoga Springs PD warn of burglar

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Police are searching for the person who broke into a home on Pinewood Ave. early Friday morning. A neighbor called police to report they thought they heard someone breaking in shortly after midnight. When officers arrived they found a home ransacked.

I got a call from my parents last night middle of the night, about 2:30 saying that there was a problem with the house and the house needed to be secured, said Jack Cox, Jr., the homeowners son. They had taken all the drawers out in one room and sifted through the drawers looking for whatever they took. We're not real sure what the inventory is. The parents are away so until they're back we won't have a full understanding of what was taken.

Police said several homes nearby had evidence someone tried to break in. A neighbor told CBS 6 off-camera she found footprints in the snow around her home, but no one got in. No description of the suspect was available.

Cox believes despite locking the doors and windows they entered his parents home through a vulnerable area in the back of the home.

Crime is going up everywhere. There's not much you can do. Were probably going to look at some type of security system because they're at an age where theyre traveling a little bit now. We'll definitely investigate into some video surveillance systems and possibly one other system that you can find locally, said Cox. You win some, you lose some. You wake up in the morning and it's all good. you take it with a grain of salt and keep moving on.
