After layoffs, expansion plans for Global Foundries

Responding to the news of Global Foundries laying off 30 employees in New York, Malta Supervisor Paul Sausville focused on the positive. He suggested the experience those workers gained will help them in finding new jobs and pointed out the town recently appoved plans for an expansion at the Luther Forest Technology Campus. A project known as Fab 8.2 would create a clean-room of 475,000 square feet and result in an estimated 6,684 workers on the entire campus.

"Every organization has to revamp their employment structure from time to time," Sausville reasons, "the add personnel and reassign other personnel."

A spokesman for Global Foundries said the people being laid off were people in non-technical, support positions. The layoffs were first reported by the Albany Business Review Wednesday.
