Thin ice warning after motorcycle accident

The Albany County Sheriff's office is warning about the dangers of thin ice, after a motorcyclist plunged through the ice on Friday night.

Deputies say a 25-year-old Coeymans resident and a 23 year-old from Selkirk were drag racing on the ice on Thompson's Lake in the Town of Berne.

One of the riders hit a soft spot, causing the motorcycle to enter the water.

There were no injuries, however the motorcycle needed to be removed from the icy water, and the NYS Environmental Police were called in to help with the cleanup.

Sheriff Craig Apple says "People need to be aware of their surroundings and added that everyone who does venture onto ice should have proper buoyancy protection such as life vests."
