Schumer pushes for rail funding

SARATOGA -- Senator Chuck Schumer made his last stop on his yearly tour of New Yorks 62 counties, with a pitch to provide more money for a popular tourist railroad line.

The Senator launched a plan at the Saratoga Train Station on Monday to extend capital funding for short-line rail improvements expected to run out at the end of the year. The Saratoga and North Creek Rail line has transported over 50,000 passengers each year, providing tourism dollars and jobs.

Schumer wants to increase that ridership by providing more track maintenance, as well as starting freight service in the Adirondacks. He is trying to ensure that it gets its $300,000 tax credit that expires on December 31st.
