Albany County to ban styrofoam containers

ALBANY -- Albany County Executive Dan McCoy signed a law Thursday morning that will ban styrofoam containers from being used at chain restaurants in Albany County.

The ban will apply to stores with 15 or more locations nationwide.

It does not apply to small businesses as of yet.

The ban goes into effect on January 1st with a 6 month grace period.

The restaurant could face a $500 dollar fine for using styrofoam after that.
