Trial delayed for Joseph Bruno
ALBANY -- A judge says the trial for Joseph Bruno will not happen before May 12 2014.
Judge Sharpe announced the decision on Friday. There is a possibility the trial against the former Senate Majority Leader could begin in April if another judge is assigned to the case.
Bruno was acquitted in 2009 of five counts and convicted of two others that were overturned on appeal. He has denied wrongdoing and says he had outside business interests like most of New York's part-time lawmakers.
Prosecutors refiled those two charges against the Rensselaer County Republican, once considered one of the three most powerful officials in Albany. They say he accepted more than $400,000 from a businessman for helping with state grants.
