Central NY man pleads guilty in son's death

UTICA (AP) -- A 27-year-old central New York man has admitted responsibility for the death of his 9-month-old son.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch reports that Jevon Wameling pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree manslaughter, saying he didn't get medical help for Levon Wameling after the child suffered a head injury falling off a couch. He said he later put Levon's body in a bag and dropped it in the Mohawk River.

Relatives reported the child missing and Wameling told police on June 11 he hadn't seen the child since May 29. He initially said Levon disappeared after he left the infant unattended briefly on the front porch.

Levon's body was found by divers on Sept. 6.

The father faces from 7 1/2 to 15 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Jan. 30.
